Welcome to
St. Andrew's Dew Drop Inn.

We are a safe, warm and welcoming place where hungry people can come to eat with no questions asked.

Our task is a simple one: We feed hungry people. Our goal is to build a community of care where can come together as neighbours and friends to support each other. To accomplish this, we rely on a great number of caring volunteers - church groups, service clubs, schools, organizations, businesses and individuals - who give of their time and money so that we can provide a hearty midday meal 365 days a year.

We are located in the north end of Thunder Bay at 292 Red River Road, across from Waverly Library. If you are hungry, you are welcome here. And if you want to learn more about us, you are invited to explore this site.

Kids Helping Kids…

September 17th, 2010

Five-year-old Ben Courtney (right) along with his three-year-old brother Liam (left) and his mother, Karen (back right) deliver special treats for kids who eat at St. Andrew's Dew Drop Inn Soup Kitchen. Ben, who created a 'Fundraiser for Hungry Kids', raised dollars to buy food to feed hungry children.

Many parents encourage their children to finish their meals by using such phrases as “eat your dinner… you are so lucky to have food on your plate… lots of kids don’t’ .

Five year old Ben Courtney of Thunder Bay took this to heart and decided to do something about it. Ben created a fundraiser for hungry kids. He planned a ‘Fun Day” at Centennial Park as well as set up a booth at the Country Market to collect donations. The Lappe Store and M.P. Bruce Hyer’s office also collected donations for Ben’s special project.

Ben managed to raise $305 cash and purchased 6 large boxes of food which he shared with the Dew Drop Inn Soup Kitchen and a Rural Food bank. Ben made sure to include some special treats for kids, like individual packets of canned fruit,  juice and crackers as well as many other non-perishable items.

Ben’s mom says that Ben is just a “ kind, generous little guy who likes to help others, so we really enouraged him and helped him make this event a success”.

Thank you Ben and the rest of the Courtney family who supported you. With kids like you on our side, we are sure to be able to continue to feed  hungry people in our community for a long time.

DDI Director Terri Favreau with Larry Perrier and his wife Leona at Awards Dinner

The City of Thunder Bay’s 34th Annual Awards Presentation for the Official Recognition of Citizens of Exceptional Achievement recognized a familiar face at the Dew Drop Inn recently. Larry Perrier began volunteering at the Dew Drop Inn in 1999. He was appointed Supervisor of  Volunteers in the summer of 2003. Larry also co-ordinates and trains new volunteers or groups of volunteers that are needed to run the Dew Drop Inn 365 days a year. Congratulations Larry on receiving the Good Citizen Award. We are lucky to have you.

Husky Rebate Program and Quality Market Save-a-tape make it easy for YOU to help!

June 11th, 2010

The Husky Community Rebate Program is a great way for you to help the Dew Drop Inn. All you have to do is get one of our Husky Rebate Cards by calling us at 345-5202. Then present your card at the point of sale at any Husky, Mohawk or Husky House Restaurant and the Dew Drop Inn will receive a 2% rebate of the total purchases. That’s it. Husky tracks the value of our purchases, calculates the appropriate rebate and sends cheques on a quarterly basis, provided we earned a minimum $50 rebate.

Another way you can help is  through Quality Market’s ‘Save a Tape’ program. Shop at Quality Market, save your till receipts and drop them off at St. Andrew’s Dew Drop Inn. We’ll  return them for a cash refund which is a percentage of the receipt totals.

Just two more ways that YOU can help Feed the Hungry here in Thunder Bay.

Thunder Centre raised $7300 and the Arthur Street Store raised over $2200. Thank you to the Canadian Tire staff and to everyone who bought a tote bag. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
